Public Health Strategic Partnerships

Development of national public health department accreditation has involved, and is supported by, public health leaders, practitioners, and academicians from federal, national, state, and local levels. PHAB continues to develop partnerships with national organizations, agencies and initiatives that will strengthen public health practice. Organizations interested in developing a strategic partnership with PHAB should contact Kaye Bender, President/CEO, at kbender@phaboard.org.

Funding and Content Sponsors

PHAB would like to thank the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) for their generous support in funding and content expertise since 2007.

PHAB works closely with national organizations that represent each type of eligible public health department applicant category. These organizations include the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), the National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH), and the National Indian Health Board (NIHB).

PHAB’s work has been enhanced by a strong variety of leading public health organizations, including the American Public Health Association (APHA), the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD), the National Association of Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS), the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI),the National Public Health Informatics Institute (NPHII), Public Health Foundation (PHF), the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), the Association of Public Health Nurses (APHN), the Center for Sharing Public Health Services, and Trust for America’s Health.

Accreditation and quality improvement are closely aligned. PHAB’s work in that area is still being developed. Key stakeholders assisting in these efforts include the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Healthcare Quality, the National Quality Forum, the Center for Public Health Quality, and RTI International (PHQIX).

Academic Stakeholders

PHAB has partnered with several academic programs, institutions, and national organizations to support the inclusion of accreditation in student lectures, practicums, theses, and dissertations. Among these partners is the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH), the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE), the University of Kentucky, the University of Washington, the University of Mississippi, the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, and Johns Hopkins University.
